Tomorrow I’m going here:

I went last year too – it was the first and best wool show I’ve been to so far so I’m really excited! Never thought I’d ever be this excited about wool before I started felting 😉

I should be asleep now really as it’s 1am and I have to get up at 7 for the drive ahead. Will post again after the event!

Wow, Ally Pally was certainly an exhausting day out!

We started out at 6am this morning, drove into London, confused the sat-nav, shopped for 7 hours straight (bar the odd tea break), drove back through some VERY busy London traffic and then got home! Hey, I’m tired so won’t even try to be eloquent. 😛

It was a great day and I’m so glad I went as I’ve wanted to for ages, but I was decidedly disappointed with the lack of felt making supplies on offer. I did come back with a few lovely bits and bobs, and huge amounts of encouragement and inspiration though, which I will show you just as soon as I find the charger for the camera!

Anyway, I’m blimmin knackered now so night night 🙂

Update: I’ve been busy working for the past 20 hours, but will dig for the charger tomorrow. I’ll also upload the photo of the felted soap if I remember!

After getting the tickets yesterday (see here) it got me thinking about the last show we went to – Fibrefest.

We turned it into a camping holiday, and stayed at Salcombe Regis campsite which is just up the road from Sidmouth – a great site other than the sloping pitch! We did camping in style by taking a futon matress and some bench cushions and duvets. It was very snuggly once we’d filled our hot water bottles (with covers knitted by my Mum!) and eaten our cream teas.

Sleeping compartment - very comfy!

Unfortunately we missed the local observatory’s event that was held on the day we arrived, and a local music festival…despite that we had a really lovely holiday going to some beautiful places, including one of my favourite places Lyme Regis.

Fibrefest was a wonderful day full of many tempting things and lovely knowledgeable people. The setting was gorgeous too.  It was held here: I don’t think the caterers were expecting so many visitors as they sold out of veggie and most meat food sharpish! Luckily we managed to get the last 2 veggie burgers to fuel more shopping 🙂

End of the day at Coldharbour Mill...we always seem to be among the last to leave these events!

Very appropriately it is an operational yarn spinning mill. They have a museum too but we were too busy in the tents and paddock to look!

Today we bought our tickets for the Knitting and Stitching show at Alexandra Palace. Yay! I love going to knitting shows as they always have a fantastic selection of felting goodies. The website for this show is here.

Previous show...I cant wait!

I’ve never been to this venue, but from what I can tell it’s going to be huge! Very different to Wonderwool and Fibrefest I would imagine – a really different location for starters! It seems as though there will be a few more different crafts available to browse which will be good. Will be very difficult trying to decide what to get on my extremely limited budget…lets hope that there are some really fantastic bargains or I find a winning scratchcard before then or something. Well, you can dream!

Yesterday I made a felt phone case, and will be uploading the pictures very soon along with those of the bag I’ve recently made. Watch this space!

My Mum is going to attend a City and Guilds knitting class tomorrow as she hopes to enrol soon. It’s really exciting and makes me long to do the felting equivalent. I know she’s going to get loads out of it, and looking at some of the previous intakes work should be really good fun. I half wish that I was going on it as well now, although I have declined. I guess it’ll give me more focus on the felting, which definitely isn’t a bad thing 🙂

It would be good to hear from anyone who has done a City and Guilds knitting or feltmaking course. Anyway, hope you’re all enjoying your weekend! x
